Morazan Day — a national holiday in Honduras dedicated to the memory of Francisco Morazán, one of the most famous political and military leaders of Central America in the 19th century. It is celebrated annually in October and is part of the long "October holidays," known as "Semana Morazánica."

Who Francisco Morazán was
Francisco Morazán (1792–1842) was a Honduran statesman and president of the Federal Republic of Central America. He was considered a supporter of liberal reforms, including:

* promotion of secular education,
* freedom of the press,
* limitation of the church's power,
* development of democratic institutions.

Through his policies, he became a symbol of unity and the pursuit of progress in Central America.

When it is celebrated
Although Morazan Day officially falls on October 3, since 2014 the celebration has been moved to the first week of October and combined with other national holidays into one "tourist week" (Semana Morazánica). This was done to stimulate domestic tourism and the economy.

How it is celebrated
On this day, various events take place in Honduras:

* official ceremonies in honor of Morazán,
* cultural and educational programs in schools and universities,
* parades and marches,
* concerts and festivals organized by municipalities.

Many residents also use the long weekend for travel and leisure.

Significance of the holiday
Morazan Day is not only a commemoration of an outstanding leader but also a symbol of national pride, a reminder of the struggle for democracy, reforms, and the unification of Central America.
